The Origins
I am interested in many things, especially most things wellness-related. I am well-acquainted with many folks who are into Aikido, and my partner just happens to be a Sensei of Yoshinkan Aikido. I have been curious about Tai Chi (Taiji) and Chi Kung (Qi Gong) for some time, and then providence would have it that I saw a flier posted in our local video store for this.
It was with slight trepidation (I am not the world’s most coordinated and graceful person!) and piqued interest that I decided to commit to 3 months of internal martial arts. At first, it was with a begrudging interest that I sat in on a few Aikido classes – it is a bit intimidating to come into a class where everyone 1. seems to know what they are doing 2. appears to understand Japanese – until you realize that neither is the case. After getting over these fallacies, it looks *fun*, although I suspect my interest is on a more metaphysical level. I’m not sure yet if I will actually train in Aikido, but it’s definitely under consideration.
